Tragedy Strikes as 14-Year-Old Davion Boone Dies in Accidental Shooting

Tallahassee, FL — The community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 14-year-old Davion Boone, who died after being shot by another 14-year-old in what authorities are calling a case of reckless homicide.

According to the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD), the incident occurred earlier this week in a local neighborhood. Investigators say Davion was with a group of friends when one of them, also just 14 years old, gained access to a firearm. At some point, the weapon discharged, striking Davion. Despite lifesaving efforts from first responders, the young teen was pronounced deceased shortly after the shooting.

Police say the teen who fired the weapon is believed to have been a friend of Davion’s. After an investigation into the circumstances, he has been charged with reckless homicide. TPD emphasized that while the shooting appears unintentional, the outcome was devastating and serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers firearms pose when handled irresponsibly or accessed by youth.

“This is a tragedy that should never have happened,” a TPD spokesperson said in a statement. “Two young lives — and many others connected to them — are forever changed because of this incident.”

Davion’s family, heartbroken by the loss, has described him as a bright, loving, and energetic young man who brought joy to everyone around him. Friends and classmates have been gathering to share memories, describing him as someone who could always make people smile and who had a promising future ahead.

The news has left the broader community shaken, sparking difficult but important conversations about youth, gun safety, and responsibility. Local leaders and advocates have renewed calls for families to ensure firearms are properly stored and secured, especially in homes with children and teenagers.

Counselors are being made available at Davion’s school to help students and staff cope with the sudden loss of a classmate. Vigils are being planned to honor Davion’s memory and provide support to his grieving family.

As the investigation continues, police are urging parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of firearms. “We all have a role to play in preventing tragedies like this,” officials added.

The Boone family has asked the community for privacy as they mourn their son but expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support they have received in these difficult days.
