Laredo Police: Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Car on Interstate 35
LAREDO, Texas — A man was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Interstate 35, according to the Laredo Police Department.
Authorities said the crash occurred on September 21, 2025, around 5:45 a.m. in the 4500 block of IH-35 southbound. Police and emergency responders were dispatched after receiving reports of a pedestrian accident in the area.
When officers arrived, they discovered that 33-year-old Sebastian Guerrero had been hit by a 2015 Toyota Prius while crossing the highway on foot. Guerrero was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Investigators noted that the stretch of highway where the collision occurred was extremely dark and poorly lit, which likely contributed to the tragedy. Police said the driver of the Prius remained at the scene, cooperated fully with investigators, and showed no signs of intoxication.
The incident forced a temporary closure of several southbound lanes on IH-35 as authorities conducted a death investigation and cleared the roadway. By mid-morning, Laredo Police confirmed that all lanes had been reopened to traffic.
Police have since notified Guerrero’s next of kin and extended their condolences to his family.
The Laredo Police Department has not announced any charges in connection with the incident, but the case remains under investigation. Officials reminded residents to exercise extreme caution when near major highways, particularly in low-light conditions where visibility is limited.
This accident underscores ongoing safety concerns along IH-35, one of South Texas’s busiest roadways, where pedestrian crashes are rare but often deadly due to high speeds and heavy traffic volumes.
