59-Year-Old Ethel Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on Highway 14 in Attala County

ATTALA COUNTY, Miss. — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash in Attala County that claimed the life of a local man Friday evening.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), the accident happened on Highway 14 near County Road 5202. Troopers said that around sunset, a vehicle driven by 59-year-old John Sisney of Ethel, Mississippi, veered off the roadway for reasons that remain under investigation.

After leaving the highway, Sisney’s vehicle struck multiple trees before coming to a stop. Emergency responders were called to the scene, but despite efforts, Sisney was pronounced dead at the site of the crash.

The impact left the vehicle heavily damaged, and the crash site was secured by law enforcement as MHP investigators worked into the night to document evidence and determine what may have led to the tragedy. Authorities have not yet indicated whether weather, speed, or a potential medical emergency could have played a role.

Family and community members in Ethel are mourning the sudden loss of Sisney, who was well-known in the small Attala County town. Friends described him as a hardworking and kind individual whose passing has left a deep void.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing. Officials said findings from the crash reconstruction will help determine the exact cause, but they reminded drivers to exercise caution, especially on rural highways where roadway conditions can quickly change.

This marks yet another tragic accident on Mississippi’s roads, where traffic fatalities continue to be a concern for both law enforcement and local communities.

Anyone with additional information related to the crash is encouraged to contact the Mississippi Highway Patrol’s Troop D office.
