SAPD Identifies Victim and Suspect in 9th and Chadbourne Shooting

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A Saturday night shooting in San Angelo has led to the arrest of a suspect and left one man recovering from serious injuries, according to the San Angelo Police Department (SAPD).

The incident occurred on September 20, 2025, around 8:15 p.m., when officers were dispatched to the area of 9th Street and Chadbourne Street following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police discovered 35-year-old Enemencio DeLaRosa suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including injuries to his facial area. Emergency medical personnel quickly transported him to a local hospital, where authorities confirmed he is in stable condition as of Sunday.

During the course of their investigation, officers identified the suspected shooter as 34-year-old Alan Helms. Helms was taken into custody at the scene without further incident and later transported to the Tom Green County Jail. He has since been booked on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Detectives believe that the shooting was an isolated incident, stressing that there is no ongoing threat to the broader community. Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the events leading up to the altercation or the potential motive behind it.

The area of 9th and Chadbourne was temporarily secured by law enforcement late Saturday evening as investigators processed the scene, collected evidence, and interviewed witnesses. Police activity drew the attention of nearby residents and motorists, many of whom expressed concern as crime scene tape and flashing patrol car lights lit up the neighborhood.

As of now, the case remains under active investigation, and SAPD officials have stated that additional information will be released when available.

Community members are encouraged to come forward with any information that could aid investigators. Tips can be provided directly to the San Angelo Police Department or anonymously through San Angelo Crime Stoppers.

The shooting has sparked conversations among residents about safety in the Chadbourne Street area, though law enforcement reassures the public that this was not a random act of violence. For now, the focus remains on supporting the recovery of DeLaRosa and preparing the legal proceedings against Helms.
