NASHUA, N.H. — Authorities have confirmed an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting that rocked the community of Nashua on Saturday, September 20, 2025. The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, along with the Nashua Police Department, announced that 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau has been taken into custody following the violent incident at the Sky Meadow Country Club.
According to investigators, the shooting occurred during the afternoon hours when Nadeau allegedly opened fire with a handgun, killing 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare. Officials noted that there was no known connection between the suspect and Mr. DeCesare, suggesting that the act may have been random in nature.
Tragically, the violence did not end there. In the same burst of gunfire, Nadeau also shot and wounded two other adults, who were rushed to area hospitals for treatment. Their names and conditions have not yet been released as authorities work to notify families and continue their investigation.
Attorney General John M. Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke confirmed that Nadeau now faces a second-degree murder charge for the killing of Mr. DeCesare. Prosecutors have indicated that additional charges are forthcoming, particularly for the surviving victims who were injured in the attack.
Nadeau is expected to be arraigned in the Ninth Circuit Court in Nashua on Monday, September 22, where prosecutors will formally present the charges. Authorities stressed that the current charges are allegations, and under the law, Nadeau remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
The incident has left residents of Nashua shaken, particularly given the location of the shooting at the typically quiet and upscale Sky Meadow Country Club. Law enforcement officers remained at the scene for hours, conducting interviews, collecting evidence, and working to piece together the moments that led up to the tragedy.
Officials have not yet disclosed a possible motive for the shooting, and investigators continue to examine whether Nadeau had any prior history of violence or criminal behavior.
“This was a senseless act of violence that has taken the life of one individual and left others injured,” Attorney General Formella said in a statement. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Mr. DeCesare, and we remain committed to ensuring justice is served.”
Chief Rourke echoed the Attorney General’s sentiments, praising the swift response of Nashua Police officers and first responders who rushed to secure the scene and provide aid to the victims.
Community members have already begun placing flowers and messages of condolence near the entrance of the country club, honoring the memory of Robert Steven DeCesare and expressing support for the injured survivors.
As of Sunday evening, the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities have pledged to release further details as they become available, while emphasizing the need to preserve the integrity of the case as it heads toward court proceedings.
