Miami Authorities Investigate Chaotic Series of Crashes That Claimed Life of 18-Year-Old Angelina Plasencia
MIAMI — A tragic string of late-night accidents in Miami-Dade County ended in heartbreak as authorities confirmed 18-year-old Angelina Plasencia was killed in a fatal motorcycle crash on Sunday night.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the chaotic chain of events began around 11:30 p.m. near Northwest 72nd Avenue and Northwest 58th Street, when deputies initially responded to a report of a missing person. The following morning, investigators discovered Plasencia’s body floating in a nearby canal, confirming her as the victim of the series of collisions.
Detectives believe Plasencia was one of several passengers in a vehicle that was first involved in a crash at Northwest 74th Avenue and Northwest 58th Street. Instead of remaining at the scene, the occupants fled, only to become involved in another collision minutes later on the northbound ramp of State Road 826 at Northwest 58th Street. After that crash, the group abandoned the car and fled on foot.
Authorities say the group then called a friend for a ride and were picked up on a motorcycle. At some point, four people were riding together on the motorcycle, which soon crashed near Northwest 72nd Avenue and Northwest 58th Street—the same area deputies had first responded to earlier that night. The violent crash ejected all four riders.
Emergency crews from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported three of the victims—a man and two women—to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Hours later, search teams located Plasencia in the canal, where she was pronounced dead.
The discovery has left investigators piecing together a chaotic timeline that involved multiple crashes, a hit-and-run, and a motorcycle accident that ultimately claimed the life of the teenager.
