Tragedy in Lake Michigan: Two Children Identified After Fatal Water Incident on Chicago’s South Side
CHICAGO, Ill. — Authorities have identified two of the three people who were found dead in Lake Michigan near South Side beaches on Saturday, in what police believe may be connected to a domestic dispute. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identities of the young victims as 1-year-old Jream Jaycee Washington and 6-year-old Wyatt Bryden Patton, both from Matteson, Illinois.
The incident began Saturday morning when authorities discovered Washington in the water near the 5700-block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive, close to 57th Street Beach, around 11:23 a.m. Emergency responders pronounced the child deceased at the scene. Later in the day, around 2:23 p.m., crews found the bodies of Patton and a 31-year-old woman in the water near the 6300-block of South Hayes Drive, near 63rd Street Beach. Both were also pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the woman has not yet been released.
While the medical examiner’s office has listed the manner of death as “pending” for both children, Chicago police have indicated that the three deaths are believed to be connected. Investigators are considering a domestic dispute as a possible factor in the tragic incident. Authorities are continuing their work to confirm the circumstances surrounding the deaths and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
