ASHLAND, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is investigating a devastating crash that claimed the life of a motorcyclist on Sunday afternoon in Ashland County.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:53 p.m. on State Route 511, just south of U.S. Route 30. Investigators report that 27-year-old Noah David Carmel Rogers of Shreve was riding a 1995 Honda VF750C motorcycle southbound on SR 511 when he attempted to pass two other motorcycles. During the maneuver, Rogers drove left of center and collided head-on with a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado traveling north.
The impact was severe, ejecting Rogers from his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A 2005 Suzuki VL1500 motorcycle, traveling in the same group, was also involved in the crash. Its rider was transported to University Hospital Ashland Samaritan Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Colorado sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Emergency response was swift, with multiple agencies assisting, including the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Hayesville Fire Department, Ashland Fire Department, and the Ashland County Coroner’s Office. Authorities closed a section of State Route 511 for approximately four hours to allow investigators to reconstruct the crash and clear the roadway.
Local residents have expressed shock at the tragic accident, noting that SR 511 is often a busy stretch for both commuters and recreational riders. Motorcycle safety advocates continue to stress the importance of caution, particularly when passing on two-lane roads.
