Road Rage Shooting Leaves Man Injured in Chesterfield; Police Searching for Suspect Vehicle

CHESTERFIELD, Va. — A road rage incident along one of Chesterfield’s busiest corridors escalated into gunfire on Sunday evening, leaving an adult male hospitalized and police searching for the suspect.

The Shooting

Chesterfield County Police reported that officers were dispatched to the 12200 block of Midlothian Turnpike, near Walmart Way, after receiving calls about a shooting. When they arrived, they found an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

The victim was quickly transported to a nearby hospital. Authorities confirmed that his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Road Rage Sparks Violence

According to a preliminary investigation, the incident stemmed from a road rage confrontation while both vehicles were traveling west on Midlothian Turnpike. At some point during the dispute, the suspect’s vehicle pulled up alongside the victim’s. The suspect then fired into the victim’s vehicle before fleeing the area.

Police said the suspect’s car is described as a white Nissan Altima. After the shooting, it was last seen traveling westbound on Midlothian Turnpike.

Investigation Ongoing

Detectives and forensics teams spent hours at the scene Sunday evening collecting evidence and canvassing the area for witnesses. The busy stretch of Midlothian Turnpike, lined with businesses and frequented by heavy traffic, made the shooting especially alarming for residents and commuters.

Authorities have not yet released additional details about the suspect, and no arrests have been announced. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the shooting, to come forward.

Community Concerns

The shooting has sparked renewed concerns about aggressive driving and escalating road rage incidents. Local residents say Midlothian Turnpike is known for heavy traffic and frequent driver disputes, but few could have expected one to turn so violent.

“This is scary — you don’t expect someone to start shooting in broad daylight on such a busy road,” one nearby resident said. “It could have been anyone caught in the crossfire.”

The Chesterfield Police Department emphasized that the investigation remains active and ongoing. They are asking the public to remain vigilant and to report any information that could help locate the suspect vehicle or identify the shooter.
