JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Thursday that 29-year-old Shaquille Green of Jackson Township has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the death of 28-year-old Toraya Reid, also of Jackson Township.

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. — Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Thursday that 29-year-old Shaquille Green of Jackson Township has been charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the death of 28-year-old Toraya Reid, also of Jackson Township.

According to authorities, the events unfolded on September 6, 2025, around 11:00 a.m., when Jackson Township Police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired at a residential property in the community. Upon arrival, officers discovered Reid with gunshot injuries. Despite immediate lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prosecutor Billhimer stated that Green has been formally charged following an extensive investigation conducted by the Jackson Township Police Department in collaboration with the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators collected evidence from the scene, interviewed witnesses, and reviewed surveillance footage in the surrounding area to piece together the circumstances leading to Reid’s death.

“Toraya Reid’s death was a tragic loss to her family and the entire Jackson Township community,” Billhimer said in a statement. “The charges against Shaquille Green reflect the severity of the crime and our commitment to holding those responsible accountable under the law.”

The community has been left reeling by the violence, as Reid was widely known as a kind, compassionate, and vibrant member of Jackson Township. Friends, neighbors, and loved ones described her as a caring individual whose presence brought joy and warmth to those around her. Her death has sparked an outpouring of grief, with family and friends calling for justice.

Green was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Ocean County Jail pending his initial court appearance. Prosecutors confirmed that Green has a prior criminal history, which may be considered in upcoming proceedings.
