Wichita Police Arrest 80-Year-Old Woman in Fatal Crash That Killed Lashea Bell and Aniah Bell
WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Police Department has arrested an 80-year-old Augusta woman on two counts of second-degree homicide after a deadly three-vehicle crash Saturday night that claimed the lives of 42-year-old Lashea Bell and 25-year-old Aniah Bell, both of Wichita.
The crash happened around 9:35 p.m. on August 30, 2025, at the intersection of Central and Webb Roads. Investigators say the woman, driving a black Chevrolet truck eastbound on Central, struck a white BMW carrying Lashea and Aniah Bell, as well as a gray Jeep SUV traveling south on Webb.
Lashea Bell was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger and daughter, Aniah Bell, was rushed to a hospital but tragically passed away shortly after arrival.
The 41-year-old driver of the Jeep sustained only minor injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet was hospitalized and later taken into custody after being medically cleared. Authorities confirmed she now faces two counts of second-degree homicide.
Preliminary findings suggest speed and alcohol were contributing factors, though the case remains under investigation. Wichita police said the findings will be turned over to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
“This was a preventable tragedy that cost two innocent women their lives,” a WPD spokesperson said. “We will work tirelessly to ensure accountability and justice for the Bell family.”
The crash has shaken Wichita, as community members mourn the devastating loss of a mother and daughter. Flowers and candles have already appeared at the intersection as tributes pour in for the two women who were taken too soon.
Police urge anyone with information about the collision to come forward as the case moves forward.
