In Loving Memory of Dr. George W. Williams

It is with profound sadness that the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists (TSA) announces the passing of Dr. George W. Williams, ASA Director, TSA Past President, and one of the most respected leaders in the field of anesthesiology.

Dr. Williams served as President of the TSA from 2022–2023, where his visionary leadership, tireless dedication, and genuine compassion made an indelible mark on the society and its members. His work extended far beyond administrative duties—he was a mentor, advocate, and friend to countless anesthesiologists across Texas and the nation.

A Life of Service and Leadership

At the time of his passing, Dr. Williams was a beloved critical care anesthesiologist at the UT McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, where he served as Vice-Chair and Professor of Anesthesiology. His career was distinguished not only by his clinical excellence but also by his unwavering commitment to education.

In recognition of his remarkable contributions to teaching, Dr. Williams was honored with the ASA Distinguished Educator in Anesthesiology Award, a testament to the generations of physicians he guided, inspired, and mentored. Many of his students and mentees have gone on to become leaders within TSA and beyond, carrying forward his legacy of service and scholarship.

A Leader with Heart

Dr. Williams’ impact was not confined to the classroom or hospital. He was a respected national figure in anesthesiology, serving in influential roles within the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and other medical organizations. His colleagues admired not only his professional expertise but also the warmth and energy he brought to every interaction.

He was instantly recognizable by his ever-present bow tie, infectious smile, and boundless positivity. To those who knew him, Dr. Williams wasn’t just a leader—he was a source of encouragement, laughter, and optimism. A Community in Mourning

The loss of Dr. Williams is deeply felt across the anesthesiology community. He was more than a colleague—he was a mentor, advocate, and friend whose passion for medicine was matched only by his love for people.

He is survived by his wife, Erin, his children, and a circle of family and friends who cherished him deeply.
