In Loving Memory of Elisha Jones III
The Baldwin County community, the University of West Alabama family, and the OJ French Memorial Foundation are deeply heartbroken to share the devastating news of the passing of Elisha Jones III, a remarkable young man whose life was tragically cut short in a car accident. Elisha, just 18 years old, had recently graduated from Baldwin County High School and was beginning his freshman season with the West Alabama Tigers football team when tragedy struck.
A gifted athlete and an inspiring leader, Elisha’s passion for the game of football was undeniable. He worked tirelessly to improve his skills, uplift his teammates, and represent his school and community with pride. His efforts and determination earned him not only a place on the West Alabama roster but also recognition as one of the most recent scholarship recipients of the OJ French Memorial Foundation—a testament to his drive, promise, and character.
Elisha’s former coach, Andrew Davis, shared through tears that Elisha was truly “a light to everyone.” His light was not confined to the field—it radiated in classrooms, locker rooms, and in every space where he shared his warmth, humility, and unshakable positivity. To his coaches, teammates, and peers, he was not just a player; he was family.
The OJ French Memorial Foundation, which exists to honor lives lost too soon and to uplift young people pursuing excellence, grieves Elisha’s loss profoundly. In a statement, the foundation shared:
“Our hearts are deeply heavy as we grieve the untimely and tragic loss of one of our most recent scholarship recipients, Elisha Jones III. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the entire community impacted by this tremendous loss. May EJ’s light and legacy continue to shine in the many lives he touched.”
Even at such a young age, Elisha left an indelible mark. He embodied perseverance, leadership, and kindness—qualities that extended far beyond athletics. His family, friends, and community will remember him for his contagious smile, his ability to inspire others, and the love he poured into everything he did.
In the midst of this unimaginable loss, we cling to the comfort of God’s Word:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
As the Baldwin County community, the University of West Alabama, and the OJ French Memorial Foundation mourn this profound loss, we also celebrate the legacy Elisha leaves behind. His story, though far too brief, will continue to encourage others to live with determination, faith, and kindness.
Funeral arrangements will be shared in the coming days as family and friends prepare to honor his life. Though his journey ended far too soon, Elisha Jones III’s light will continue to shine—guiding, inspiring, and reminding us all of the power of hope, perseverance, and love.
