Dawson County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Fatal Vehicle-Pedestrian Accident Near Lexington
LEXINGTON, Neb. — The Dawson County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a tragic vehicle-pedestrian accident that occurred Monday evening, August 18, 2025, approximately three miles east of Lexington.
According to Sheriff Mark Montgomery, deputies and emergency responders were dispatched at 9:33 p.m. to the scene along Highway 30 near Road 436.
Details of the Incident
Preliminary reports indicate that 19-year-old Cristofer Guzman, of Lexington, was traveling eastbound in a Jeep when his vehicle struck a pedestrian walking in the driving lane of the highway.
The pedestrian was identified as Angelina Navarrete-Chavez, 19, of rural Lexington.
Upon arrival, Dawson County deputies immediately initiated CPR in an effort to save Navarrete-Chavez. Emergency crews from Priority Medical and the Lexington Volunteer Fire Department were also dispatched to assist. Despite the swift response, she was transported to Lexington Regional Health Center, where she was pronounced deceased.
Response and Assistance
The Nebraska State Patrol provided assistance at the scene as investigators worked to secure the area and gather evidence. Authorities have not released further details on why Navarrete-Chavez was walking in the roadway at the time of the collision.
