Staunton Police Department Investigating Battery Incident at Local Bar; Three Law Enforcement Employees Charged
STAUNTON, Ill. — The Staunton Police Department has confirmed that three individuals, including two Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department employees and a Bunker Hill Police officer, have been arrested and charged following a reported battery at Skeeters Bar during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 16, 2025.
The case began when, on August 18, 2025, the Staunton Police Department was contacted by the victim’s sister, who reported that her sibling had been the victim of a violent assault at the establishment around 1:00 a.m. Two days later, investigators were able to connect directly with the victim, who disclosed that three men had battered him during the incident.
Suspects Identified
The suspects were quickly identified as:
-
Logan Hemp – employee of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department
-
Joshua Revisky – employee of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department
-
Jeffery Schoen – officer with the Bunker Hill Police Department
Given the suspects’ ties to local law enforcement, Staunton Police immediately notified Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl and Bunker Hill Police Chief Zach Girth of the situation.
Arrests and Charges
After taking formal statements and collecting evidence, all three suspects were arrested by the Staunton Police Department, with assistance from the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department. Due to potential conflicts of interest stemming from their employment, the men were booked into the Montgomery County Jail rather than Macoupin County’s facility.
The suspects have each been charged with:
-
Aggravated Battery in a Public Place
-
Mob Action
On August 19, 2025, the defendants made their first court appearance at the Macoupin County Courthouse. During this hearing, they were released under pretrial conditions pursuant to the SAFE-T Act.
Special Prosecutor to Be Assigned
The Macoupin County State’s Attorney’s Office announced during the hearing that it would be recusing itself from the case, citing conflicts of interest, and confirmed it would request the appointment of a special prosecutor to ensure impartiality in the legal proceedings.
Ongoing Investigation
The Staunton Police Department has emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing. They are urging anyone with additional information related to the incident to contact the department directly.
In a statement, Staunton Police expressed gratitude for the inter-agency cooperation that helped move the case forward:
“The Staunton Police Department would like to thank the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department, the Macoupin County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Bunker Hill Police Department for their cooperation and assistance in this investigation.”
Authorities have also reminded the public that all subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
