It is with profound sadness and the heaviest of hearts that we share the devastating news of the passing of Demetrious Perry, only 8 years old, whose bright spirit and joyful heart touched everyone around him. In the early hours of Sunday morning, while peacefully asleep, Demetrious suffered a sudden aneurysm that burst in his brain. He did not suffer and felt no pain. One moment he was our happy, playful little buddy — and the next, he was gone, leaving us stunned and heartbroken. He was airlifted by helicopter to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, where doctors determined that he was brain dead.
A Family’s Unimaginable Strength
In the midst of their grief, Demetrious’ family — Chad, Krystal, and Dominic — made an extraordinarily selfless decision: to donate his organs so that other children across the country may live fuller, longer lives. Through this final act of generosity, Demetrious will forever be remembered as a true hero. To celebrate his life and honor his final journey, there will be a Superhero Honor Walk on Wednesday, August 20th at 3:00 p.m. at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital on Grand Avenue. As the transplant team escorts him from the hospital to their facility, family, friends, and community members are invited to line the halls and gather outside to give him a hero’s send-off.
The family has requested that this moment be uplifting and full of love — a celebration of Demetrious’ spirit. Rather than quiet tears, they ask for cheers, applause, and encouragement, as if sending off a superhero taking flight to save the day. Everyone who attends will play a part in ensuring Demetrious receives the farewell he deserves: one filled with joy, gratitude, and honor.
