Laramie High School Mourns Tragic Loss of Student, Community Unites in Support
LARAMIE, WY – The Laramie High School community is grieving after the tragic death by suicide of a student on Monday, March 31, 2025. The heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the school, leaving students, teachers, and families devastated and highlighting the critical need for mental health awareness and support.
A Community in Mourning
As news of the student’s passing spread, grief and sorrow filled the halls of LHS. Students and faculty struggled to comprehend the unbearable loss of one of their own, prompting school counselors and local crisis support organizations to step in and offer mental health services and coping resources to those affected.
The tragedy has sparked difficult yet necessary conversations about the mental health struggles that many young people face but often feel unable to express. School officials, community leaders, and support groups are urging open dialogue, early intervention, and accessible mental health services to help prevent further loss.
Robbie’s House Extends Support to LHS Students
In response to the tragedy, Robbie’s House, a well-known local crisis support organization, has expanded its services to include all members of the LHS community. While Robbie’s House typically provides support and guidance for adults, they have opened their doors to students, teachers, and families affected by this profound loss.
“Although our mission is to support adults during a crisis, we want to open up our services to everyone in the LHS community,” said a representative from Robbie’s House. “We are a place of love and support.”
To help those grieving, Robbie’s House is offering therapeutic art workshops, including:
🎨 Watercolor painting
🏺 Pottery sessions
📝 Writing workshops
These creative outlets provide a safe space for students and faculty to express their emotions, cope with grief, and find comfort in community healing.
School Activities Paused for Healing
Out of respect for the mourning community, Laramie High School administrators have canceled the first open gym session originally scheduled for this week. The decision allows students and staff to focus on processing their emotions, seeking support, and prioritizing mental well-being.
“Right now, our focus is on healing and supporting each other. We want students to know that they are not alone in this.” – LHS School Counselor
The Importance of Mental Health Awareness
This devastating loss serves as a painful reminder of the mental health crisis among young people. Many students silently struggle with stress, anxiety, depression, and social pressures, often feeling like they have no safe space to express their emotions.
Local mental health advocates and school officials are urging parents, teachers, and peers to:
Check in on their loved ones
Encourage open conversations about mental health
Know the warning signs of emotional distress
Offer support and resources to those in need
