In Loving Memory of Amir Warnick
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Amir Warnick, a beloved 15-year-old student at South Sumter High School. Amir tragically passed away due to an asthma-related medical emergency, leaving our school community in shock and sorrow. His passing occurred on the eve of what should have been an exciting first day of school — a time of new beginnings now forever marked by the absence of his bright presence.
Amir was a remarkable young man whose kindness, respectfulness, and warm spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was a source of light, joy, and inspiration to his classmates and teachers, always greeting others with a smile and a gentle demeanor. His dedication to his studies and his willingness to help others reflected a maturity far beyond his years.
The news of Amir’s passing has deeply affected students, staff, and families alike. In response, South Sumter High School has made additional grief counselors available to provide support during these difficult days. We know that grief looks different for everyone, and we encourage all who are struggling to reach out — whether to a counselor, a teacher, a friend, or a family member. This is a time for our community to lean on one another and remember that no one needs to carry the weight of loss alone.
As we begin this new school year, we do so with heavy hearts. There will be an empty seat in the classroom, but Amir’s spirit will remain in the hallways, in our memories, and in the countless lives he touched. His passing reminds us of the importance of compassion, connection, and holding our loved ones close.
To honor Amir’s life, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Sumter Schools Enhancement Foundation in his name. All funds raised will go directly to the family to assist with burial expenses and to help them through this incredibly difficult time.
🕊️ Rest in peace, Amir. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten. Your light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew you.
