DALLAS — A tragic shooting in the early hours of Saturday morning has left a mother and her 3-year-old son dead, with the suspect later dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Dallas police confirmed.
According to a press release from the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 2:10 a.m. on the 1900 block of Dudley Street. Upon arrival, officers found three individuals injured, including the alleged gunman.
Investigators say a preliminary investigation revealed that Lalit Pradhan, 53, shot two people he knew before turning the gun on himself. The victims were identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office as Ranjana Shrestha, 37, and her young son, Pranish Pradhan, 3.
Both mother and child were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities described their injuries as fatal gunshot wounds.
When officers located Pradhan, he was suffering from a gunshot wound and multiple lacerations. He was transported by Dallas Fire-Rescue to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the attack.
The shooting has left the surrounding community shaken, with neighbors expressing shock at the violence in their otherwise quiet neighborhood. Authorities have not indicated any ongoing threat to the public, stating the case appears to be a murder-suicide.
The investigation is ongoing, and Dallas police say they will continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the deadly shooting.
