In Loving Memory of Justin Steven Piper
The Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) family, along with friends, colleagues, and loved ones across multiple states, are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Justin Steven Piper, a dedicated transit bus operator whose kindness, professionalism, and warm personality touched countless lives.
Justin’s journey began in Brooklyn, New York, where his strong work ethic, resilience, and sense of community were deeply rooted. He attended PS/IS 323 during his early years, a place where his bright smile and easygoing nature made him a friend to many. He later studied at George Westinghouse Vocational and Technical High School, where he began shaping the skills and discipline that would carry him throughout his career.
Furthering his education, Justin attended Tompkins Cortland Community College, where he continued to expand his knowledge and build lifelong friendships. Those who knew him from his academic years remember him as driven yet humble, someone who could always bring laughter to a study group or encouragement to someone struggling.
Eventually, Justin made Cincinnati, Ohio, his home. It was here that he became a Transit Bus Operator for the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority, a role he carried out with pride and deep commitment. Operating a bus was more than a job to Justin — it was a way to serve the community. Day after day, he transported passengers safely, greeted riders with a warm “good morning,” and made sure that even the smallest gestures, like a friendly wave or a helpful hand, became part of his daily routine.
Colleagues at SORTA speak of Justin as a team player — someone who never hesitated to fill in for a coworker, share a laugh in the breakroom, or offer advice to new drivers just learning the ropes. His presence was uplifting, and his absence will be deeply felt across the entire transit family.
Outside of work, Justin remained true to his roots. He carried with him the values instilled in his Brooklyn upbringing — loyalty, perseverance, and a strong sense of community. Friends describe him as someone who could light up a room, make strangers feel like friends, and who always found a way to keep spirits high, even during challenging times.
His life, though far too short, was filled with meaningful connections and acts of service. Whether through his professional dedication, his unwavering friendship, or his constant love for his family, Justin made an indelible impact on all who knew him.
Justin Steven Piper leaves behind not only the memory of his laughter, kindness, and integrity but also the inspiration for others to treat each day as an opportunity to serve, connect, and uplift those around them. His story is a reminder that our everyday interactions can leave lasting impressions and that a compassionate heart is one of the most powerful legacies a person can leave behind.
As his loved ones grieve this tremendous loss, they take comfort in knowing that Justin’s spirit will forever ride along the routes he once traveled — in the city he served, in the hearts of his colleagues, and in the many lives he touched along the way.
