Thompson Township, PA – Deadly Ambush Leaves One Civilian Dead, Two State Troopers Wounded, and EMT Injured
THOMPSON TOWNSHIP, PA — A quiet Pennsylvania community was shaken to its core this morning after an ambush-style attack claimed the life of a local woman and left two Pennsylvania State Troopers and an EMT wounded.
Pennsylvania State Police Colonel Christopher Paris identified the suspect as Carmine Faino, 61, who allegedly opened fire without warning, killing his neighbor and then engaging officers in a violent gun battle.
The Deadly Morning Unfolds
According to investigators, the tragic chain of events began when Lori Wasko, a Thompson Township resident, was near her car early this morning. Without provocation, police say Faino shot and killed her.
Lori’s boyfriend, who witnessed the horrifying attack, immediately called 911 for help.
Within minutes, Troopers Joe Perechinsky and William Jenkins arrived at the scene, responding to what they believed was an urgent but contained situation. Instead, they were met with an ambush.
Police say Faino opened fire on the troopers, striking both men twice. Despite their injuries, the troopers were able to return fire when Faino failed to comply with repeated police commands. The exchange of gunfire ultimately left the suspect incapacitated.
Troopers Perechinsky and Jenkins were rushed to the hospital, where officials say both are now in stable condition.
First Responders Also Targeted
In a disturbing escalation of violence, authorities confirmed that an EMT responding to the scene was also fired upon. The gunfire struck the EMT’s vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and crash. The EMT was transported to a hospital with injuries, though their current condition has not been publicly released.
Col. Paris emphasized that this remains a very active investigation, with detectives working to determine the motive behind the sudden and deadly outburst of violence.

The small, tight-knit community of Thompson Township is reeling in disbelief. Neighbors describe Lori Wasko as a kind-hearted woman who loved her family and friends and was always willing to lend a hand.
“This is the kind of place where you know everyone,” one resident said. “You don’t expect something like this to happen here. We’re heartbroken and scared.”

Col. Paris praised the bravery and resilience of Troopers Perechinsky and Jenkins, noting that their quick response and willingness to confront extreme danger likely prevented further loss of life.
“These troopers showed incredible courage under direct fire,” Paris said. “Our focus now is on their recovery, supporting the victims’ families, and ensuring justice is served.”
Ongoing Investigation
State Police have not yet confirmed whether Faino had a history of violence or prior disputes with the victims. Ballistics teams and forensic units remain at the scene, processing evidence and documenting the chaotic aftermath of the attack.
