Florida Man Arrested After Fatally Shooting Grandparents, Injuring Neighbor — Claims “God Told Him To Do It”

West Melbourne, FL — A tragic and deeply disturbing incident has rocked a quiet Florida community after 22-year-old Jeremyah Campbell was arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of his grandparents, George and Mary White, and the shooting of a neighbor who tried to call 911 for help. The case has drawn intense attention due to the brutal nature of the crime and the chilling statements Campbell allegedly made during and after the incident.

According to investigators, the violence unfolded in the Whites’ West Melbourne home on a seemingly ordinary evening. Deputies were called to the residence after neighbors reported hearing gunshots and screaming. Upon arrival, law enforcement found George and Mary White deceased, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. A third victim — a neighbor — was found with injuries sustained during an apparent attempt to call 911. That neighbor, whose identity has not been released, is recovering from their wounds.

The situation quickly escalated into a full-scale investigation, and officers located Campbell nearby. His physical and mental condition alarmed first responders — he was reportedly sobbing, shouting incoherently, sweating profusely, and appeared disoriented. Deputies described his pupils as dilated and noted that he made bizarre statements, including claiming he saw a cyclops and that Satan was in his head. Perhaps most disturbingly, he told investigators that “God told him to send his grandparents to him.”

Court documents reveal that a family member witnessed an argument earlier that day between Campbell and his grandparents. That confrontation is believed to have stemmed from concerns over Campbell’s possible use of an unidentified drug, which may have impaired his mental state.

Authorities say that Campbell used a firearm belonging to the household and that the killings appeared to be deliberate. His statements during the investigation raised immediate questions about his mental health, though as of this time, officials have not released any formal history of mental illness or substance abuse tied to Campbell. Toxicology tests are pending, and law enforcement continues to examine whether drugs played a contributing role in the tragic events.

Campbell is currently being held in the Brevard County Jail without bond and faces multiple charges, including:

  • Two counts of second-degree murder

  • One count of attempted murder

  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony

This tragedy has left the local West Melbourne community stunned. George and Mary White were described by neighbors as “kind-hearted, loving people who would do anything for their family.” They were known to be active in their community and deeply devoted to their grandson, despite growing concerns over his recent behavior.

The injured neighbor, who courageously attempted to call for help during the shooting, is being praised for their bravery. Authorities credit the quick 911 call and first responder actions for preventing further loss of life.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and State Attorney’s Office are continuing their investigation. Officials have said that mental health evaluations will be a key component of the legal process moving forward.

As the legal case unfolds, the community mourns the loss of two beloved residents and prays for healing — both for the wounded neighbor and for a family now torn apart by an unimaginable act of violence.
