Saginaw Police Investigating Homicide After Tragic Shooting on City’s East Side

Saginaw, MI (August 4, 2025) — A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded Monday evening on Saginaw’s east side, where a 1-year-old boy was fatally shot and a 25-year-old man critically wounded in a violent incident that has shaken the community.

According to the Saginaw Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:55 p.m. to the area of Robinwood Avenue and Erie Street following reports of a shooting. While en route, dispatch advised that two gunshot victims were being rushed to a local hospital in a personally owned vehicle rather than by ambulance.

Shortly afterward, a private vehicle arrived at Covenant Hospital, carrying the two victims—identified only as a 25-year-old male and a 1-year-old male, both Saginaw residents. Medical personnel at the hospital immediately began treatment, but despite their efforts, the infant was pronounced deceased a short time later. The adult victim remains in critical condition, with medical teams working tirelessly to stabilize his injuries.

The names of both victims are being withheld at this time, pending notification of extended family.

The Saginaw Police Department, in conjunction with detectives from the Michigan State Police Major Crimes Unit, responded swiftly to the scene of the shooting and to the hospital. Officers secured the area around Robinwood and Erie, conducting interviews and canvassing for witnesses, while crime scene investigators began processing evidence. Authorities are currently working to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting and whether the victims were targeted or caught in crossfire.

As of this report, no arrests have been made, and police have not released any information regarding potential suspects or vehicles involved. The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Saginaw Police Chief and officials from the Major Crimes Unit have described the incident as a “devastating act of violence,” underscoring the heartbreaking loss of life and the toll it takes on the community—especially when a child becomes the victim.

“This senseless act has taken the life of an innocent child and left another man fighting for his,” a department spokesperson said. “We will do everything in our power to bring justice to this family and hold those responsible accountable.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Even the smallest tip could help lead investigators to those responsible. Individuals who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-5245.

Community leaders and residents have begun expressing their grief and outrage on social media and in local forums, calling for an end to the gun violence plaguing parts of the city.

As the investigation continues, Saginaw mourns a young life taken far too soon, while police work around the clock to track down those behind this act of violence.

Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
