Buffalo Man Charged with Second-Degree Murder After Woman Found Dead in Amherst Motel

AMHERST, NY — A shocking and deeply tragic incident has shaken the Amherst community as police have confirmed that a 27-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a motel on Niagara Falls Boulevard. Following a swift and intense investigation, the Amherst Police Department has secured a second-degree murder arrest warrant for Daniel Negron, a 37-year-old Buffalo resident, in connection with the case.

The incident was initially reported as a medical emergency on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, after emergency responders were dispatched to a motel in the 1900 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst. Upon arrival, first responders discovered the unresponsive body of the woman in one of the motel rooms. Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary Investigation Points to Homicide

After assessing the scene and conducting a preliminary investigation, Amherst police quickly determined that the woman’s death was not natural. Evidence collected at the scene, along with witness interviews and surveillance footage, reportedly pointed to foul play, prompting the reclassification of the case from a medical emergency to an active homicide investigation.

Authorities have not yet publicly released the name of the 27-year-old victim out of respect for the family’s privacy, though they confirmed she was a resident of Amherst.

Daniel Negron Identified as Primary Suspect

As the investigation progressed, Daniel Negron was identified as a person of interest and eventually named as the primary suspect in the woman’s murder. Amherst detectives worked with multiple agencies across state lines and discovered that Negron was already in custody in Erie, Pennsylvania, on an unrelated matter.

A second-degree murder warrant has been issued for Negron, and extradition proceedings are currently underway to bring him back to Erie County, New York, where he will face charges.

Officials have not disclosed the nature of Negron’s relationship with the victim or a possible motive, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Community in Shock

The news of the young woman’s death and the subsequent murder charge has sent ripples through the Amherst community. Residents in the area, known for its suburban calm and family-friendly environment, expressed shock and sadness over the violent nature of the crime.

“This kind of thing just doesn’t happen here,” one neighbor told local media. “It’s horrifying to think something so violent happened just down the street.”

Authorities have emphasized that they believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no continued threat to public safety.

Ongoing Investigation

The Amherst Police Department, in collaboration with law enforcement partners in Pennsylvania and New York State, continues to gather evidence and conduct interviews. Police are asking anyone with information about Daniel Negron, his whereabouts in the days leading up to July 29, or anything unusual seen at or near the 1900 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard, to come forward.

Anonymous tips can be submitted to Amherst Crime Stoppers or directly to the Amherst Police Department’s tip line.
