Bay City, TX — In Loving Memory of Chief Randy Frontz: A Legacy of Service, Courage, and Community

With deepest sorrow and a heavy heart, we honor the life and legacy of Chief Randy Frontz, a beloved leader and steadfast public servant, who passed away after an extraordinary 45-year career with the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department. Chief Frontz died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy built on integrity, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to the community he proudly served.

Chief Frontz began his lifelong journey with the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department on June 18, 1980. What started as a calling quickly became a legacy — a life defined by bravery, brotherhood, and selfless commitment. Over the course of nearly five decades, he rose through the ranks with humility and honor, becoming not just a firefighter or a chief, but a mentor, a role model, and a symbol of strength for Bay City and the wider region.

Throughout his distinguished tenure, Chief Frontz responded to thousands of emergency calls — fires, accidents, rescues, and natural disasters. Each call, no matter how routine or dire, was met with the same level of urgency and care. He led with compassion, strategy, and an unshakable calm, often putting others’ safety before his own. His presence at the scene of an emergency offered comfort and confidence to his fellow firefighters and to citizens alike.

Colleagues remember Chief Frontz not only for his leadership in crisis but for his mentorship in calm. He took great pride in training the next generation of firefighters, instilling in them the values of courage, discipline, and service. For many, he was the first to welcome them to the firehouse, the first to offer a word of encouragement after a tough call, and the first to remind them why they chose this path.

“Chief Frontz was the heart of this department,” said a fellow firefighter. “He didn’t just lead us — he shaped us. He taught us what it means to serve, and to do so with humility, compassion, and pride.”

Beyond his firefighting duties, Randy Frontz was deeply embedded in the Bay City community. Whether volunteering at local schools, organizing fire safety education programs, or attending town council meetings to advocate for public safety improvements, he was constantly working to make Bay City a safer, stronger, and more united place.

Known for his approachable demeanor and kind soul, Chief Frontz was a man of few words but powerful impact. His deep voice, warm handshake, and quiet wisdom left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He believed in the power of community and in lifting others up — not just during emergencies, but every day.

Chief Frontz is survived by his devoted wife, children, grandchildren, and an extended fire service family who admired and respected him beyond measure. He was a husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend — a man whose life reflected the very best of what it means to serve.

To honor his decades of sacrifice, the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department will host a full honors memorial service, including a final bell ceremony and a procession of emergency vehicles. Flags across the city will fly at half-staff, and the fire station will hold a “last call” tribute to mark the end of an era. The date and time of the service will be announced in the coming days.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Bay City Volunteer Firefighter Memorial Fund, which will continue Chief Frontz’s mission of supporting emergency services and public safety education in the community he so dearly loved.

Though Chief Randy Frontz may no longer walk among us, his impact will be felt for generations. His leadership forged a legacy, his courage inspired a city, and his heart brought people together.

Rest easy, Chief. Your watch is over — and we are forever grateful.
