In Loving Memory of Minor Curt Mathews December 18, 1964 – July 15, 2025
It is with profound sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Minor Curt Mathews, who departed this life on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Independence, Kentucky, by what can only be described as an unfathomable act of Mother Nature. The suddenness of his loss has left a deep ache in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Minor was born on December 18, 1964, in Adams County, Ohio, to Joseph Curtis Mathews and Verda Ellen Mathews. From those early days in southern Ohio, Minor grew into a man known for his quiet strength, his deep compassion, and the fierce loyalty he showed to family and friends. He was a man of integrity, humor, and humility—a presence that was both comforting and grounding.
A Life of Love and Purpose
Minor’s life was marked not by the spotlight but by the steady, faithful way he loved those around him. He was a devoted husband, a loyal friend, a steadfast son and brother, and a source of strength to all who knew him. Those closest to him will remember his kind eyes, his ready smile, and the way he could make even the hardest days feel a little lighter just by being there.
He had a love for the simple things in life—a walk in the woods, a good conversation, quiet evenings with family, and the laughter of those he held dear. Minor saw beauty where others might pass it by. He understood what mattered most and lived with that clarity every day.
Though his journey on this earth was cut tragically short, Minor leaves behind a legacy of love, character, and quiet wisdom. He touched more lives than he ever knew, and the impact of his presence will be felt for years to come.
Honoring His Life
To celebrate Minor’s life, a visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd, at the Thompson-Meeker Funeral Home in West Union, Ohio, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial ceremony to honor the remarkable man we all loved so very much. This will be a time of remembrance, of tears, of laughter, and of stories that speak to the goodness of his spirit.
Following the ceremony, Minor will be cremated, per his and the family’s wishes. His memory, however, will live on in each of us—in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
A Living Tribute
In lieu of flowers, the family has lovingly requested that donations be made directly to Minor’s wife to help support her during this difficult time. Additionally, for those wishing to offer a living tribute, the family encourages you to plant a tree in Minor’s honor—a symbol of life, growth, and the enduring strength he embodied.
In Remembrance
As we grieve this tremendous loss, let us also remember the way Minor lived—with heart, humility, and grace. Let us strive to be more like him: gentle in our ways, faithful in our commitments, and generous with our love.
Minor Curt Mathews, your time with us was far too short, but your legacy will live on in every life you touched, in every tree planted in your name, and in the hearts of those who will never forget you.
May you rest in eternal peace.
