In Loving Memory of Ella Cahill: A Light That Touched Us All
It is with shattered hearts and profound sorrow that we share the passing of Ella Cahill—a beloved member of the UTSA Campus Recreation team and our dedicated Fitness Student Coordinator. Ella was more than just a teammate or leader—she was a bright light who brought warmth, kindness, and unwavering support to every corner of our community. Her absence is deeply felt, and her legacy will forever be woven into the fabric of our program.
Ella played an instrumental role in shaping the culture and strength of our Fitness Programs. From leading hiring initiatives to training and mentoring fellow student staff, she was the backbone of our operations—someone everyone could count on. But beyond the titles and tasks, Ella was a mentor, a friend, and a quiet force of encouragement and grace. Her calm presence soothed stressful days, and her steady leadership inspired confidence in those around her.
Those who had the honor of working alongside Ella knew her as someone who led with empathy and lifted others up with genuine care. Her kind heart and radiant smile made people feel seen, valued, and empowered. Whether it was a first-time student nervous to step into the gym or a fellow coworker facing a personal challenge, Ella had a way of making people feel safe and supported. That was her gift—a true leader not only in action but in spirit.
Ella’s impact reached far beyond her day-to-day responsibilities. She was an anchor in our campus community—someone who made our space not just a place to work or work out, but a place to belong. Her legacy is one of compassion, mentorship, friendship, and the quiet yet powerful ability to transform lives simply by being herself.
As we collectively mourn this heartbreaking loss, we ask the UTSA community to keep Ella’s family, friends, and our entire Campus Recreation staff in your thoughts and prayers. This is a moment of immense grief, but also one where we are reminded of how deeply interconnected we are—how one life can uplift so many.
To honor Ella and others in our community whom we have tragically lost in the recent flooding—Dr. Katheryn Eads and Reese Manchaca—UTSA will be holding two opportunities for shared reflection:
-
Virtual Reflection: Wednesday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m.
-
On-Campus Reflection Gathering: Friday, July 11 at 12 p.m.
In addition, Campus Rec will hold two staff support gatherings, both virtual and in-person. Specific details have been provided by supervisors. We encourage all who need a space to grieve, reflect, or simply be together to join.
Please, Roadrunners, take care of yourselves and one another. Moments like these remind us of the fragility of life and the importance of leaning on community. If you or someone you know needs support, drop-in counseling is available through Wellness 360, and 24/7 mental health services are accessible via the TimelyCare app.
Ella Cahill, your spirit will live on in every life you touched, every space you brightened, and every person you helped feel seen. You will never be forgotten. Thank you for all you gave—your presence was truly a gift. 💙🧡
Rest in peace, dear Ella. You will always be with us.
