Tragic Collision Claims Life of Motorcyclist in Cass County Crash

CASS COUNTY, Ind. — A quiet Saturday afternoon turned deadly in Cass County as a tragic collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck claimed the life of a young motorcyclist. The crash, which occurred around midday on July 6, has left a family grieving and the community reeling from yet another fatal accident on Indiana’s roadways.

According to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), deputies were dispatched at approximately 12:04 p.m. to the scene of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Highway 24 and County Road 600 East. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the wreckage of a 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck — both severely damaged from the collision.

Preliminary findings from the investigation suggest the crash occurred when the driver of the Silverado attempted to cross the eastbound lanes of U.S. 24 and proceeded into the westbound lanes. In doing so, the driver crossed directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle, resulting in a violent impact.

The aftermath was chaotic. The motorcycle came to rest northwest of the intersection, while the pickup truck halted near the crossroads of County Road 600 East and U.S. Highway 24. Witnesses described a harrowing scene as first responders rushed to aid the motorcyclist, who had suffered critical injuries.

Emergency medical personnel quickly requested a medical helicopter to assist in transporting the injured rider. Sadly, despite their urgent efforts, the motorcyclist — later identified as 28-year-old James Dolmanet of Wabash, Indiana — succumbed to his injuries before he could be airlifted to a hospital.

The driver and passenger of the Chevrolet Silverado declined medical attention at the scene and were reported to be unharmed. Authorities have stated that impairment is not believed to have been a factor in the collision, though the full details remain under investigation.

To facilitate cleanup and the forensic investigation of the scene, officials closed a portion of U.S. Highway 24 for approximately two hours, causing temporary traffic delays in the area.

As the Cass County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, they are urging anyone with information or who may have witnessed the accident to come forward. Community members can contact the CCSO at (574) 753-7800.

The loss of James Dolmanet has deeply impacted those who knew him. Described by friends as adventurous, kind-hearted, and passionate about riding, James leaves behind not only a grieving family but also a broader motorcycle community that mourns one of its own. His death serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerability of motorcyclists on busy roadways and the critical importance of awareness and caution at intersections.

As the investigation proceeds, Cass County authorities are expected to conduct further interviews and analyze the full sequence of events leading up to the crash. For now, a life has been cut tragically short, and a community must come to terms with the consequences of a momentary misjudgment on the road.

This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
