DALLAS — Tragedy Strikes as ’Cookies ‘N Smoothies’ Owner Shot and Killed at The Shops at RedBird

A quiet Tuesday afternoon at The Shops at RedBird turned into a heartbreaking scene of violence when 53-year-old Jaime Alejandro Rokkett, beloved owner of the small business Cookies ’N Smoothies, was shot and killed inside the mall where his shop was located. The fatal shooting occurred just after 4:00 p.m. on July 1, 2025, sending shock and sorrow through the Dallas business community and the broader public.

Dallas Police responded to reports of a shooting at the shopping complex in the 3600 block of West Camp Wisdom Road. When officers arrived, they found Rokkett suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from Dallas Fire-Rescue, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office later officially identified him.

A Business Owner, A Community Fixture

Jaime Rokkett was more than a business owner. For many who frequented Cookies ’N Smoothies, he was a friendly face, a welcoming presence, and a part of what made the mall feel like a community space. His smoothie shop, nestled inside The Shops at RedBird, was known not only for its sweet treats but also for the warmth and energy Rokkett brought with him each day.

Fellow tenants and shoppers remembered him as generous, kind, and always eager to share a smile or kind word with those passing by his storefront. News of his tragic death has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him—whether personally or through the simple joy of grabbing a smoothie on a hot day.

A Targeted Act of Violence

Authorities have stated that the shooting was not random. According to Dallas Police and sources close to the investigation, Rokkett and the suspect were known to each other and had a prior history. Sources told WFAA that the victim had previously obtained a restraining order against the suspect. The situation escalated when a verbal altercation erupted inside the mall, eventually turning deadly as the suspect pulled a firearm and shot Rokkett.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the scene. However, in a surprising turn of events, the suspect later surrendered to Arlington Police, where she was taken into custody. Police have not yet released the name of the suspect or the specific charges being filed but confirmed that the investigation is active and ongoing.

Response from The Shops at RedBird

The leadership at The Shops at RedBird expressed profound sadness over the incident, emphasizing that the violence was isolated and targeted—not a random act.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred today at The Shops at RedBird,” a statement from mall management read. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time. This was an isolated, targeted event involving individuals known to each other and not a random act of violence. It could have happened anywhere. We are fully cooperating with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation and support their efforts to bring clarity and justice to this tragic occurrence.”

The shopping center remained closed for a period following the incident but has since reopened with increased security presence as a precautionary measure. Counseling resources and support have been made available for employees and store owners at the complex affected by the traumatic event.

A Life Remembered

Jaime Rokkett’s death has prompted an outpouring of tributes on social media and in the Dallas small business community. Messages of grief, support, and remembrance continue to flood in, with many sharing their fondest memories of Rokkett—from the way he greeted every customer by name to the community events he supported.

“He was a beautiful soul,” one mall employee shared. “Kind, funny, and full of life. He was doing what he loved—running his business, engaging with people. It’s just devastating that it ended like this.”

Moving Forward with Justice

While the suspect is now in custody, investigators continue to piece together the full context and events leading up to the tragedy. As the legal process unfolds, those who loved and respected Jaime Rokkett will continue to mourn his loss and remember the positive light he brought to his community.

The Dallas Police Department urges anyone with additional information or footage related to the incident to come forward as the investigation continues.

In the days to come, The Shops at RedBird and the Dallas community will come together to honor a man whose presence made their days a little brighter—one cookie and smoothie at a time.
