UPDATE: Shooting Victim Dies in Summerville Incident; Suspect Apprehended Within the Hour

SUMMERVILLE, GA — A tragic shooting incident on Friday afternoon has ended in the death of a male victim and the swift apprehension of a suspect by law enforcement authorities.

On June 6, 2025, at approximately 12:36 p.m., officers from the Summerville Police Department were dispatched to Oak Street in response to a 911 call reporting a gunshot wound victim. Upon arrival, officers located a male individual lying unresponsive in the roadway, suffering from a serious gunshot wound.

Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to Chattooga ER, where, despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Summerville Police Department quickly launched an on-scene investigation, and with the support of eyewitness accounts and other gathered evidence, a suspect was identified within the hour. In a coordinated response, the Georgia State Patrol and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect during a traffic stop on Taylors Ridge, where the individual was taken into custody without incident.

As of this update, the investigation remains active and ongoing. Detectives from the Summerville Police Department, along with Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), are currently conducting interviews, searches, and evidence collection to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Out of respect for the ongoing nature of the investigation, the names of the victim and the suspect, as well as specific charges, have not yet been released. Officials state that this information will be made public once the initial phase of the investigation is complete.

The Summerville community is deeply shaken by this violent event in a residential area during daylight hours. Local leaders and law enforcement have called for patience and calm as the investigation continues, and they commend the swift and collaborative response that led to the suspect’s capture.
