Allentown Mourns Dr. Victoria ‘Torie’ Whitehead: Beloved Anesthesiologist Passes After Brave Cancer Battle
The Allentown community is deeply mourning the loss of Dr. Victoria “Torie” Whitehead, a dedicated anesthesiologist at Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN), who passed away after a courageous battle with colorectal cancer. Dr. Whitehead was renowned not only for her medical expertise but also for her compassionate approach to patient care, leaving an indelible mark on colleagues and patients alike.
Dr. Whitehead’s journey in medicine was driven by a profound commitment to patient safety and advocacy. She once expressed, “As an anesthesiologist, I am your advocate when you are asleep, and I take that bond very seriously. I will be your protector in the operating room.”
Her educational path reflected her diverse interests and dedication. Dr. Whitehead earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Queen’s University in 2012 before pursuing her Doctor of Medicine at St. George’s University School of Medicine, graduating in 2019. She completed her anesthesiology residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 2023, after which she joined LVHN as an anesthesiologist.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Whitehead was deeply involved in her community. She had a passion for animal rescue, recently adopting a German shepherd puppy, and was committed to medical education, mentoring aspiring clinicians. Her personal interests included hiking, art, and reading, pursuits that she balanced alongside her medical career.
Dr. Whitehead’s battle with colorectal cancer began ten months prior to her passing. Throughout this period, she demonstrated unwavering strength and resilience, supported by her loving fiancé, Arjan, and her devoted family, including her parents and siblings. Despite exploring various treatments, her condition did not respond as hoped. Arjan made significant personal sacrifices, including leaving his gastroenterology fellowship in Florida, to be by her side during this challenging time.
In honor of Dr. Whitehead’s memory and her contributions to the medical field and community, her family and friends have established a GoFundMe campaign. This initiative aims to assist with medical expenses incurred during her illness and to establish a scholarship fund in her name, ensuring that her legacy of compassion and excellence continues to inspire future generations.
