The fatal shooting took place around 10:30 p.m., prompting a swift and thorough investigation that ultimately led to multiple arrests.

The Incident

According to the Opelousas Police Department, officers responded to a call regarding a shooting and arrived to find Justin Washington critically injured from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts, Washington was pronounced dead at the scene. The location of the incident has not been disclosed publicly but was confirmed to be a private residence.

The Investigation

From the beginning, detectives with the Opelousas Criminal Investigations Division worked diligently, interviewing several individuals who were at the residence at the time of the shooting. Initial witness statements were inconsistent and appeared to conflict with physical evidence recovered at the scene, prompting investigators to conduct follow-up interviews.

As the investigation evolved, detectives were able to piece together a more accurate timeline of events, aided by forensic evidence and re-interviewed witness accounts. It was during a third interview with Jasean Mansfield, 18, that he confessed to being the one who fired the shot that led to Justin Washington’s death.

Arrests and Charges

Jasean Mansfield was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Negligent Homicide
  • Obstruction of Justice

He was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail, where he remains in custody pending judicial proceedings.

Investigators also learned that after the shooting, several individuals present attempted to clean up and conceal evidence of the incident prior to law enforcement’s arrival. As a result, the following individuals were also arrested:

  • Sharona Glaude, 31
  • Latrevian Glaude, 19
  • Koby Glaude, 18

Each was charged with Obstruction of Justice for their role in the attempted cover-up. All suspects were taken into custody without incident and are being held while awaiting formal arraignment.
