Juvenile Charged After Allegedly Pointing Firearm at Motorist in Georgetown County

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC — Sheriff Carter Weaver has confirmed that one of two juveniles involved in a disturbing firearms incident has been formally charged after allegedly pointing guns at a motorist in broad daylight near Kent Road and Rambo Lane. The incident, which took place earlier today, has prompted serious concern throughout the community and launched an active investigation by local authorities.

According to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, the victim—a woman who has not been publicly identified—reported that two masked juveniles in a red Ford Mustang pulled up alongside her vehicle and pointed firearms in her direction before fleeing the scene. The woman, acting quickly, was able to record the license plate number of the Mustang and provided it to responding deputies.

Thanks to that crucial detail, deputies were able to swiftly trace the vehicle to one of the juveniles’ residences. A search of the home led to the seizure of two fully loaded AR-type pistols. Alarming to investigators was the discovery that at least one of the weapons had been modified, appearing to include a trigger enhancement, which could potentially allow for faster firing. The implications of such a modification are serious, particularly in the hands of an untrained and underage individual.

Sheriff Weaver announced that one juvenile has been officially charged, though the specific charges beyond the initial firearm offense are still developing. Additional firearms-related charges are pending, including potential violations related to illegal possession, modifications, and brandishing a weapon.

The second juvenile suspect has been identified only by his first name at this stage, as law enforcement continues working to verify his full identity and determine the extent of his involvement. Because both suspects are minors, names and further personal details are being withheld in accordance with juvenile privacy protections.

“This is a serious matter involving extremely dangerous behavior,” said Sheriff Weaver in a statement. “Pointing a firearm—loaded or otherwise—at an innocent motorist is a threat to public safety and will be met with swift and decisive action. I commend the victim for remaining calm and providing information that allowed our deputies to take immediate investigative steps.”

The Sheriff’s Office has not ruled out the possibility of gang involvement or social media-related influence, noting that investigations into juveniles with access to military-style weapons often reveal complex dynamics at home or online. Authorities are also working to determine how the juveniles obtained the firearms, and whether any adults may be held responsible for negligent supervision or firearm storage violations.

In the meantime, Sheriff Weaver assured the public that increased patrols will be taking place in the Kent Road and Rambo Lane areas, and school resource officers have been notified in case there are connections to local campuses.

The case is expected to proceed through the juvenile justice system, though depending on the findings of the investigation, there is a possibility that one or both suspects could be tried as adults—particularly if prosecutors determine the behavior constituted a felony-level threat to public safety.

Anyone with additional information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office or submit tips anonymously via local Crime Stoppers programs.

As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing presence of dangerous weapons in the hands of youth, and the ongoing need for vigilance, responsible gun ownership, and proactive community engagement.

This story is developing and will be updated as more details become available.
