Pictou County Man Charged with Robbery After Attempted Purse Snatching in New Glasgow

NEW GLASGOW, NOVA SCOTIA — A 43-year-old man from Pictou County has been formally charged following a robbery attempt at a local business on Maclean Street, New Glasgow. The incident, which took place on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m., sparked a swift police response that resulted in the suspect’s identification and arrest within hours.
According to the New Glasgow Regional Police, officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a robbery in progress involving an attempted purse theft. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim and witnesses who described the harrowing moment when the suspect, later identified as Matthew MacLean, entered the establishment and tried to steal the victim’s purse.
