BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — Authorities are investigating a tragic motor vehicle crash that ultimately claimed the life of a 22-year-old Bloomington man.

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Bloomington police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Hinshaw Avenue following reports of a serious crash with injuries. The Bloomington Fire Department also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers secured the crash site while paramedics rendered aid to the injured. Due to the severity of the incident, the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to assist with the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Hinshaw Avenue when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole. The collision caused extensive damage to the vehicle and left multiple occupants injured.

The front seat passenger, identified as Travis Floyd, 22, of Bloomington, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Carle BroMenn Medical Center. Despite intensive medical treatment, Floyd succumbed to his injuries on September 24, 2025, at 9:24 a.m.

According to McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder, a preliminary autopsy revealed that Floyd died of blunt head injuries consistent with trauma from an automobile striking a fixed object.

Other occupants of the vehicle were also injured but are expected to survive, as their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The Bloomington Police Department, along with the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team and the McLean County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash. At this time, it remains unclear what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
