22-Year-Old Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Emarion Flowers in Jackson, MI
JACKSON, MI — A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Emarion Flowers, a tragic incident that shook the Jackson community late last week. Authorities confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, May 20, following an intensive manhunt and multi-agency effort.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released pending formal charges, was apprehended around 6 p.m. on Monday, May 19. Jackson Police Chief Chris Simpson reported that the arrest occurred near the intersection of County Farm Road and Springport Road in Blackman Township, just northwest of the city. The operation was conducted swiftly and efficiently by detectives who had been tracking the suspect’s movements over the weekend.
The suspect was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Jackson County Jail. He is currently being held on suspicion of open murder, with formal charges expected to be announced by prosecutors in the coming days.
Fatal Shooting at Southridge Park
The investigation stems from a shooting that took place on the afternoon of Friday, May 16. At approximately 3:30 p.m., Jackson police responded to reports of gunfire at Southridge Park, located on Warwick Court in the southern part of the city. Upon arrival, officers discovered 22-year-old Emarion Flowers suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Emergency medical personnel quickly arrived at the scene and transported Flowers to Henry Ford Jackson Hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, Flowers was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, leaving family, friends, and the community mourning the young man’s untimely death.
Police did not disclose a possible motive for the shooting, but they confirmed that the case had been a top priority over the weekend. Surveillance footage, witness statements, and other investigative tools were instrumental in leading authorities to the suspect.
Another Shooting Within 12 Hours
Shockingly, the violence did not stop there. Less than 12 hours after Flowers was killed, gunfire erupted again — this time just outside city limits in neighboring Summit Township. Authorities responded to a shooting in the 100 block of Lincoln Court near Francis Street during the early morning hours of Saturday, May 17.
In that separate incident, four men were shot. One of the victims, 29-year-old Anthony Glen Owens Jr., succumbed to his injuries. The other three were treated for non-life-threatening wounds, according to Summit Township officials.
While the two shootings occurred in close proximity in both time and geography, authorities have yet to determine if they are connected. “It’s too early to confirm a direct link,” said Chief Simpson. “But our detectives are thoroughly examining all possible connections. We’re leaving no stone unturned in these investigations.”
Coordinated Multi-Agency Response
The successful apprehension of the suspect was the result of a coordinated response involving several law enforcement agencies. The Jackson Police Department worked closely with the Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety, Michigan State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jackson Narcotics Enforcement Team.
“This was a textbook example of what can be achieved when multiple agencies work together seamlessly toward a common goal,” Simpson said. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of all involved, we were able to bring a suspect into custody quickly and safely.”
Community Urged to Come Forward
While one arrest has been made, the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are still gathering evidence, seeking witnesses, and analyzing potential connections between the shootings. Chief Simpson emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving violent crimes.
“We need the public’s help,” Simpson said. “If anyone has information — no matter how small it may seem — please come forward. Your tip could be the key to solving these cases and bringing justice to the victims and their families.”
Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers, and anyone with direct information is encouraged to contact the Jackson Police Department.
As the community continues to reel from the recent wave of gun violence, officials have reiterated their commitment to restoring public safety and supporting those affected by these tragedies. Further updates, including formal charges and court appearances, are expected in the coming days.
